Founder's Bio

Steve Calfo, the founder of Athletic Yoga, intensely studied, mastered, and applied several disciplines of yoga over the past 15 years and has instructed over 3,000 classes. Steve has a diverse and unique knowledge and experience base through several years of practice and instruction of Hatha, Bikram, Kundalilni, and Taoism Yoga disciplines. He also studied under several outstanding instructors including Eric Reid, John DeMinico, Olga Campora, and Bryan Kest. Steve integrated several yoga systems to develop techniques for athletes to improve their performance and has incorporated critical aspects of each discipline into a very effective practice for athletes. Steve assists athletes in recognizing their limitations and overcoming them. In Steve's yoga study and evolution, his main focus has been to utilize aspects of yoga in such a way that allows well conditioned athletes to further improve their physiology and performance. With that focus at the forefront, Steve used feedback from his athletes as well other client interaction to bridge traditional yoga and currently used flexibility programs to formulate and develop effective and efficiently productive total body programs.

The practice of Athletic Yoga allows athletes to reduce injury and improve their performance and flexibility. Steve studied common injuries and identified how they can be reduced and even eliminated by developing short and effective routines. Practice of these innovative and cutting edge techniques will provide significant benefits for athletes to realize their ultimate potential and optimal performance. As a former athlete, Steve has realized the benefits of practicing yoga and has achieved a high level of success with athletes. Steve is highly motivated and dedicated to obtaining positive results and allowing athletes to achieving their optimal potential through a results-oriented yoga discipline.
